Moms Demand Action Call For More Failed Gun Control – Bearing Arms

5

No one is surprised to see Moms Demand Action scream about more gun control. It’s kind of their schtick, after all.

However, the more we learn about the most recent mass shooting at a Fed Ex facility in Indianapolis, the more we see just how ridiculous they sound. After all, the laws they say will prevent this kind of thing were already in place, yet how did that work out again? Seven people dead, plus the piece of filth shooter?

Yeah, that worked well.

Unsurprisingly, though, Moms Demand Action is still pushing.

The grassroots movement Moms Demand Action is calling for stricter gun laws after the FedEx mass shooting in Indianapolis.

The Indiana chapter said Red Flag laws work, but not in this case. The group said this mass shooting is a tragic missed opportunity to utilize the state’s Red Flag law, but also highlights the need for stricter laws and more background checks.

“We have to enforce the laws that we have on the books,” said Jennifer Haan, a volunteer leader with the Indiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “I think that this shows that there are a lot of holes in the law, there are a lot of things we could do to make it stronger.”

In this case, the shooter’s family went to the police to ask for help after he began talking about suicide by a cop in March of 2020. His gun was removed, but the Marion County prosecutor said the man was no longer considered a threat and the office didn’t file for a “red flag” hearing. Then, the man went on to buy the guns used in the FedEx shooting.

Moms Demand Action is adamant that Red Flag laws work when utilized, and are designed to prevent tragedies like the FedEx shooting. The group said in the 10 years after implementing Indiana’s Red Flag law in 2005, the state’s firearm suicide rate decreased by 7.5%.

Now, I think that before you start pushing for more gun laws, you should probably consider whether the current laws are being enforced, so I don’t think she’s off base entirely.

However, I love how they pretend that even though the laws are on the books and failed, more gun control is clearly needed.

Honestly, that’s beyond stupid.

See, the problem with red flag laws–besides their flagrant disregard for due process, that is–is that humans are the ones making the decision. They’re not going to catch some folks, particularly the most manipulative. Those also tend to be the most dangerous.

Instead, law-abiding citizens who maybe are having a tough time or who managed to upset someone else are having their guns taken away when they don’t intend to hurt a living soul, even themselves.

Red flag laws aren’t about sussing out who is dangerous and who isn’t. It’s about figuring out who is less equipped to convince a judge or prosecutor that they’re not really a danger. The two aren’t even close to the same thing.

In this case, the killer managed to convince someone he wasn’t a threat. Now, seven innocent people are dead, and Moms Demand Action are still calling for the failed policies that led to this shooting in the first place.

Then again, this is what gun control activists do. They keep calling for more of things that have failed.

There’s a term for doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. It’s “insanity.”
