Daniel Defense is a firearms manufacturer that needs no introduction. Since the company’s humble beginnings making small parts in the early 2000s, to their David-and-Goliath style successes in providing rail systems to SOCOM shortly after that, to the introduction of their first complete firearm (the DDM4, later referred to as the V1) in 2009, Daniel Defense has become one of the gun world’s household names. You would be hard-pressed to find a legitimate firearms enthusiast today who wasn’t familiar with the brand. Their AR-series rifles are highly sought after and well-regarded by many. Similarly, Daniel Defense’s recent foray into precision bolt guns, with the original Delta 5’s announcement at SHOT Show 2019, was received with excitement. They have learned from that first run and listened to customer feedback, and as a result have introduced a new upgraded version of their bolt gun: the Delta 5 Pro, which they were kind enough to bring and show off at TFB and TFBTV’s GunFest 2021.
The most noticeable difference between the previous version and the new Delta 5 Pro is the chassis upgrade. DD took their existing three-lug action out of the old carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer stock and installed it into a new completely purpose-built, in-house, custom-designed chassis system. This chassis features a front-end bridge for mounting accessories like rangefinders or night vision, scalloping behind the bridge to allow for lower height-over-bore scope mounting ability, a full-length Arca rail underneath, swappable thumb rest, and more. Add in a Timney Elite Hunter trigger, fully adjustable stock, easily user-interchangeable barrel, swappable standard AR grip, and Area 419 HELLFIRE Muzzle Brake that can be threaded off in favor of your preferred can, and you’ve got a powerful combination.
Now consider that this highly capable and customizable setup comes with an out-of-the-box 0.5 MOA guarantee and a $2499 MSRP that squeezes in under the PRS Production division requirement (price is for the black version, but olive drab or coyote tan factory Cerakote can be had for an extra $174). It’s easy to see why the Delta 5 Pro was named 2020’s “Official Bolt Gun of the PRS”. Those of you who already own original Delta 5s may be please to learn that DD also intends to offer the chassis by itself as an upgrade option in the future, for existing standard Delta 5s. They are working on pricing and availability for the standalone chassis. The full rifles are available now.
